Kevin Kling with Simone Perrin — March 21

National Public Radio commentator Kevin Kling will perform a night of side-splittingly funny yet thought-provoking storytelling with accordionista Simone Perrin. Kling, a lifelong Minnesotan who never let a birth defect or severe motorcycle accident slow him down, takes listeners on a journey through his life that is no less poignant for his humorous style.

Kling is best-known for his commentaries on NPR’s All Things Considered. He is also the creator of several books and CDs of recorded storytelling. The CD “State Fair” is his latest offering, with new, original stories written and told by Kling. It carries titles like “Easy Bob's Lament.”

Joining Kling will be Minneapolis-based theater actress, composer, vocalist and accordionista Perrin, who has been featured on A Prairie Home Companion and is a regular performer, in a variety of capacities, at Crossings.

Kling and Perrin collaborate to create a performance that covers a range of humor, tenderness and music.

Tannahill Weavers — March 17

Tannahill Weavers play music pulled straight from tradition. But they remake the Scottish songs, bringing them into the 21st Century with driving guitar playing and the energy of modern rock. From reflective ballads to footstomping reels and jigs, the variety and range of the material they perform is matched only by their enthusiasm and lively Celtic spirits.

One of Scotland's premier traditional bands, Tannahill Weavers plays a diverse repertoire that spans the centuries and demonstrates the rich and varied musical heritage of the Celtic people. These versatile musicians have received worldwide accolades for their exuberant performances.

Named for Paisley, Scotland’s historic weaving industry, and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill, the group first attracted attention back in the 1970s when founding members Roy Gullane and Phil Smillie added the full-sized highland bagpipes to stage performances. The combination of the powerful pipe solos, Gullane's driving guitar backing and lead vocals, and Smillie's ethereal flute playing breathed new life into Scotland's vast repertoire of traditional melodies and songs.

Takin’ It to the Limit — March 13

Two groups of incredibly talented musicians come together to perform music by one of the greatest rock bands of all time, The Eagles.

Both bands regularly perform sold-out shows at the 270-seat theatre, whether paying tribute to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, or to Motown. Audience members walk out of these concerts asking when the bands are scheduled to return. Two previous performances of the Eagles tribute show here were no exception.

Crossings audiences have flocked to Collective Unconscious’s covers of CSNY’s “Déjà Vu” album, the Beatles' “Abbey Road,” The Beach Boys' “Pet Sounds,” and Simon and Garfunkel's “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.” CU consistently delivers a pitch-perfect rendition of every song they perform.

The Fabulous Armadillos also have performed tributes to Motown and the Doobie Brothers at the State, and will be back in May for “Stadium Rock: Bands that Believe More is Better.” Since 2006 they have established a large and loyal following in the state with their spot-on re-creations of songs from many genres of music. Listeners close their eyes and are listening to all those vinyl records again.

The audience can expect no less than an evening of amazing music that will leave them wondering whether The Eagles themselves had taken the stage.

Davina & The Vagabonds — March 7

Davina Sowers hit the Midwest scene in February 2005 and she hasn’t looked back since. It didn’t take her long after moving to Minnesota from Key West, FL to start making a name for herself. With great vocals and piano, she commands attention on stage and leaves everyone smiling. Davina has been performing since the age of 5, with the support of an extremely musical family. Sowers, a classically-trained pianist, has years of experience in piano performance. She and her band made a big splash at Duluth’s Bayfront Blues Festival in 2006 to 2008, having the highest sales in CDs all three years. She has been called the “hardest working blues woman in frigid Minnesota.”

"Two things remain consistent in all her shows: her throaty, but cushiony voice, which has a sort of hardmattress comfort to it that’s part Bonnie Raitt, part Etta James and a little Amy Winehouse; and her band’s rollicking New Orleans flavor, driven home by dueling horn players and a bayouthick standup bass.” (CHRIS RIEMENSCHNEIDER, Star Tribune)

Davina has already shared the stage with Little Feat, Buddy Guy, Elvin Bishop, The Lamont Cranston Band, The Blues Brothers, Joe Bonamassa, Irma Thomas and James Hunter, among others, at venues such as House of Blues in Atlantic City, NJ, and the Bayfront Blues Festival in Duluth, MN.

Sue Spargo is a contemporary folk artist.  She was born in Zambia and then educated in South Africa.  She is still influenced by the energy and color of traditional African designs.  Later Sue moved to England; this shift between two very different environments also inspires many of her designs.  All these early experiences combined to stir her love of "primitive" arts and crafts and grew into a focus on contemporary folk art.  Sue now lives in the United States and travels extensively teaching.  She works primarily with design, wool and creative stitching. 
Sue has led workshops across the USA and in Australia, Canada, Vietnam, Italy, New Zealand and France.  We are thrilled to have her here in Zumbrota!

The Eric Clapton Story — February 28

This original rockumentary adds vintage film clips and brief narrative to the live music performance by the band, authentically performing the music of the first three-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and providing audiences with a number of  “I didn’t know that” moments throughout the evening. It’s a complete “blast from the past” experience!

Clapton is widely considered rock’s preeminent guitarist, one of the most important and influential of all time. His Hall of Fame honors came as a member of the Yardbirds and Cream and as a solo artist. Rolling Stone magazine placed him at number 2 on their list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” He’s won 18 Grammys.

Some of his best-loved songs include his version of Marley's “I Shot the Sheriff,” “Layla,” and Robert Johnson's “Crossroads.”

Justin Ploof, Jason Ploof, and Dan Ploof have many years of professional music experience and have shared the stage with the likes of Soul Asylum, Bobby Vee, Joan Jett, and Jessie Lang. Their incredible attention to detail and the quality of their musicianship wows audiences from the first chord right on through to the rousing end. Audiences hear the songs the way the artists meant for them to be performed. Guest appearances enhance the shows to the ultimate level of entertainment.
